Devon "Vonnie" Smith is a filmmaker and artist whose work brings together archival research, documentary practice, and highly stylized cinematic visuals. Drawing from family photographs, oral histories, institutional records, and everyday acts of remembrance, he creates films that explore how Black histories persist through image, memory, and place.

Working across digital video, analog film, and performance, Smith approaches cinema as a form of excavation. Through layered imagery, attentive sound design, and nonlinear structures, his films inhabit the space between history and imagination, revealing the ways personal memories intersect with collective experience.

Rooted in an ongoing engagement with Black cultural memory, his practice uses the moving image to reflect on what is remembered, what is lost, and what remains possible.
